Kids Martial Arts
Ages 6 to 12
This program teaches all of the qualities often associated with martial arts - dedication, determination, discipline, honesty, integrity, perseverance and focus. People often have a keen sense of wonder and curiosity. They need direction and a place to focus their energy.
Martial Arts has proven to be an excellent activity to build character and mold people into determined, focused, individuals who become successful, contributing members of our society.
At DUVALL MA we build these qualities into our students one kick, one punch, one class at a time.
Students taught by Mr. Hicks, our Lead Instructor, have gone on to become Stanford Physicians and Harvard Lawyers. With the proper direction and support every child has the ability to succeed and martial arts helps them create the inner drive and qualities of character to do so.
This program is a combination of striking and grappling arts.
A ranking and belt system are used for this program so that students have a clear indication of their progress and learning.
ALL students will be required to be in proper uniform. This helps in several ways to maintain consistency, discipline, responsibility, order and a feeling of belonging to something bigger than oneself. Students who show up for class out of uniform will not be allowed to participate during that class.
The uniform is our red school shirt, belt and black long pants. If you need a shirt please let me know the size so I can order them. I also need to know if you need a belt. The black pants I can order for you as well or you can get any type of black athletic pant you like. Shoes should be clean and flat soled to minimize any chance of injury by tripping or twisting an ankle.

Adult Martial Arts
Ages 13 and up
The primary focus in this program is teaching people how to protect themselves and their loved ones in the modern world. This can be de-escalating a single threat or surviving a mass casualty incident like an active shooter.
The curriculum is derived from Modern Military Combatives and Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics programs.
It is much more than a physical program of learning fighting skills. Students develop the mental attitudes and emotional control to survive and thrive in violent encounters and face real world threats with courage and strength.
Learning objectives include:
TAI CHI and CHI KUNG - open to all experience levels.
Classes in Carnation, Duvall and Redmond
Duvall is Tuesday and Thursday at 430 pm at McCormack Park
Carnation is Tuesday and Thursday at 230 pm at Sno Valley Senior Center
Redmond is Friday at 10 am at Idylwood Park
Join us as we delve into the ancient practices of Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) and Chi Kung, (Qigong). These Traditional Chinese Arts are based in ancient teachings around the I Ching, Taoism, Buddhism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, teachings from Wu Dang Mountain and the Shaolin Temple.
Qigong is primarily about balancing and enhancing our inner energy, improving health and increasing longevity, creating a strong, healthy and resilient body. It assists us in balancing our inner and outer aspects bringing balance and harmony to our being.
Taiji is a powerful and effective Martial Art that strengthens our inner organs, focuses our intention, improves the muscles, tendons and bones while creating a supple, agile and flexible body, with a focused mind and powerful intention.
Every class will include aspects from both Qigong and Taiji.
Reduce stress, improve balance, enhance relaxation and sports performance, calm your mind and strengthen your body from the inside out.
Tai Chi can literally be translated as Grand Ultimate. By connecting with and directing the universal life force called Chi a person can develop their body and mind far beyond that acquired through external training methods and exercise alone. The benefits of internal martial arts practice have been known for years as some of the best health and fitness practices for people of all ages.
There is a reason it is practiced by millions of people around the world.
Tai Chi can be done as a drop in class - $20 per session. Please use the registration form below regardless of whether you will attend all classes and pay in advance or use the drop in option.
