Managing Crisis and Resolving Conflict are wide and varied topics. They require training on a variety of subjects including communications, behavior recognition, de-escalation, managing aggressive behavior and the physical skills to respond to violence. These skill sets are often divided into soft and hard skills.
Soft skills are used when communications are occurring, attempting to control escalation of an event and trying to find common ground and agreement on something to bring about cooperation and resolution to a problem.
Hard skills are the physical skills required to resolve a conflict that has gone beyond communications and requires some form of combative skills to respond to an attack or control a violent situation.
Ideally being trained in both soft and hard skills provides a person with the advantage as they can work at varied levels in communications and physical response controlling a myriad of situations.
